David has over 20 years’ experience in undertaking casework in aspects of chemical criminalistics including explosives, illicit drugs, clandestine laboratories, and chemical weapons as part of the Western Australian forensic response. David has been involved in several national counter terrorism investigations as an explosives subject matter expert and is routinely called as an expert witness in criminal and civil proceedings.
In the last 20 years’ David has initiated and delivered numerous training packages across various areas of forensic science, including explosives recognition and analysis, homemade explosives, crime scene evidence collection, analytical instrumentation and clandestine drug chemistry to local and national law enforcement and defence agencies. David was a member of an international team developing and delivering numerous training courses relating to CBRNE material as part of the Chemical and Explosive Terrorism Unit at INTERPOL.
David continues to supervise numerous PhD projects relating to aspects of chemical criminalistics including explosives and other forms of forensic evidence and to date has published over a dozen articles in peer reviewed journals, along with contributions to several forensic textbooks and online encyclopedias.
