Additional Information

Dr Kenny Wang teaches Legal Interpreting and Specialised Translation at Western Sydney University. He is a NAATI Certified Specialist Legal Interpreter (CSLI), the only person to hold this credential for the Mandarin - English language pair in NSW, and the only one in Australia with a doctorate in Linguistics. He is also a NAATI Certified Translator (Chinese < > English). Dr Wang has been a practising interpreter and translator since 1999.

A balanced bilingual with native proficiency in Chinese and English, as well as with formal training in Chinese and English linguistics, Dr Wang specialises in evidentiary translation (translating for evidentiary purposes) and court interpreting.

With nearly 20 years of experience teaching translation and linguistics, Dr Wang's background as an educator means that he is able to explain and illustrate comple translation issues using examples found in the English language to help judges and jurors comprehend and appreciate the nuanced translations in dispute, to help them "get it". He is available as an expert witness for litigation and appellate proceedings in courts and tribunals in all Australian jurisdictions.

Dr Kenny Wang has served as an expert witness in over 12 matters between 2021 and 2025, with matters ranging from legal malpractice, real estate development, equity, contractual disputes, false representation, sexual offences, debt recovery, insider trading, taxation, and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.

In the matter of Atlas Advisors Australia Pty Ltd [2022] NSWSC 705, Dr Wang provided an expert report on the meaning of the Chinese expression 安全 anquan in the context of giving financial advice on an investment product that was central to the claim of false and misleading representation.

The judge in paragraphs [181-192] of the judgment commented extensively on the expert report and Dr Wang's evidence given under cross-examination, and the judge noted that His Honour “[gave] substantial weight to Dr Wang’s evidence.” ([181]), and that the judge formed the view that Dr Wang’s analysis was “particularly helpful” ([184]) and “that Dr Wang’s evidence should be preferred” ([190]).

The judge noted at [62] of the judgment that His Honour did not have to decide between the expert evidence proffered by the two experts in this matter, but if he did, His Honour would be “quite prepared to accept … the evidence of Mr Wang on that question.”
